Warm weather is finally here! After months cooped up inside, it’s time to get out there and soak up some sun. Here are a few of our favorite ways to enjoy the great outdoors while maintaining social distancing and staying safe.
Hiking – July is one of the best times to hike in Washington, and our beautiful state has numerous trails to suit hikers of all levels. Finding a route is easier than you may think. The Trailblazer app, courtesy of the Washington Trails Association, will help you find your perfect hike and give you all the tools you need to conquer it. This activity is also a great way to include four-legged family members.
Backyard Camping – Enjoy the charms of camping while still enjoying indoor plumbing! Backyard camping puts a whole new spin on the quarantine staycation, and it’s a great activity to do with the kids. Don’t underestimate the fun in pitching a tent, grilling out, stargazing, and roasting marshmallows.
Gardening – It’s not too late in the year to start a garden! Broccoli, cilantro, and radishes, among other vegetables, will be perfect for fall harvest time if planted in August. Other vegetables will even grow through winter and be ready for a spring harvest. Some of the best over-winter crops are root vegetables like carrots and beets. They will actually grow sweeter if raised in cooler temperatures.
Outdoor Fitness Class – Missing group exercise? Gather some friends in a yard, parking lot, or local park to work out social-distancing style! The easiest workouts to take outside are those that require little to no equipment like dance fitness, HIIT, or yoga. Pack plenty of water and a small speaker to play encouraging tunes! Be sure to follow local safety guidelines if you choose to meet in a public area.
These are just a few suggestions, but there is no shortage of activities you can safely enjoy outside! No matter what your adventure, we wish you safety, sunlight, and of course, yummy snacks.
