Holiday activities spring up all over Seattle

When the mercury drops and the holiday season rolls around, it brings about the same question every year: “How should we celebrate?”

If Enchant is out of your price range and you’ve seen Candy Cane Lane, you might think you’re stuck. I didn’t want to spend another year trolling strangers’ neighborhoods looking at their house lights, so after struggling with my own challenges of figuring out how to entertain, I found a great source for activities which I’m certain to be using moving forward.

Events12 told me what I already knew but I suppose I hadn’t realized: something is happening every night if you know where to look.

You think you know reindeer? Have you ever met one? Well you can get a selfie with reindeer at Swanson’s Nursery in West Greenwood now through Dec. 24. The nursery puts on an informational presentation about the mammoth creatures Monday-Friday at 11 am. On the weekends they add a 4 p.m. presentation which will continue until the Bon Voyage celebration on Dec. 24.

In addition to reindeer, Santa Claus is scheduled at specific times to do photographs with kids and families. Make sure to check out the schedule on Swansons’ website.

Making its triumphant return the the Seattle Sheraton, the 26th annual Gingerbread Village is certain to entertain. This year’s theme is “Welcome to Whoville” featuring gingerbread houses fashioned after and inspired by Dr. Seuss’ book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

The display features work by some of Seattle’s top architecture firms and the proceeds generated by this event benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

A bit further south, the Puget Sound Revels will be putting on their show “The Christmas Revels” I was going to try describing their act, but the website knocked it out of the park.

“Expect singing, dancing, and storytelling. Expect beauty, mystery, and hilarity. Bring family and friends to this lively concoction of folk tradition and high art that plays to sell-out audiences of all ages from all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”

Tickets are on sale now and shows are still open this week.
