Cup of Coffee or Tea?


You know “dog people” and “cat people?” Same goes for coffee and tea. Chances are you prefer one strongly over the other. Both have advantages and disadvantages for your body, so let’s break down some of these pros and cons.


Coffee has a large amount of fiber which we require daily. You will need to fill the rest of your daily requirement with foods like fruits and vegetables, but a cup or two of coffee will definitely contribute. And though tea is most often credited with it, coffee is also packed with antioxidants that can help lower stress and prevent inflammation. Coffee is also known to lower your risk of degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s. Finally, let’s not forget caffeine. Since coffee can have quadruple the amount of caffeine than tea, it is important to regulate your consumption as too much caffeine can cause negative side effects.


As previously mentioned, when you think “tea health benefits,” you probably think of the abundance of antioxidants one can find in tea. The beauty of it is that there are hundreds of types of tea, so there is so much variety in the antioxidants and nutrients packed in your mug! Antioxidants protect the body from free radicals which, in turn, can help prevent heart disease, cancer, or other chronic conditions. Some tea varieties also contain caffeine, but not nearly as much as a cup of coffee. Caffeine is healthy in moderation, as it supports the brain and memory, so if you are looking for a lesser amount, tea may be your new go-to.

Though there appears to be a huge divide, coffee and tea share many similarities. Don’t forget that besides the hundreds of different types of tea and coffee, there are also numerous ways to consume either drink. The possibilities are endless for how you want your drink, and no choice is a bad choice!
